Data summary 11/22 06Z through 11/24 00Z

GENERAL: Surface wind sensor may have problem related to intermittant SCS correction.

SURFACE DATA: Good T, RH, P, gauge, rad. Not sure about wind speed/dir

Temperature: very steady, 8-10 C
Winds: some surprising jumps in wind speed continue to occur.
Could be bad input when correcting for ship's motion.

SOUNDING - PROFILER COMPARISON:

RASS good. Parallel to and slightly warmer than sonde.

(note direction of errors assume class is correct and refer to radar data)

11/23 06Z (0502): Speed within 5 m/s.
		  Direction bad below 1.4km. Within 30 deg. above.
11/23 12Z (1046): Low mode: speed poor sfc - 700m; within 2 m/s above.
		  High mode: speed poor sfc - 1200m; within 2 m/s above.
		  Direction bad below 1.0km. Within 10 deg. above.
11/23 18Z (1731): Speed bad below 500m. Speed within 2 m/s above 500m
		  Direction bad below 1.0km. Within 10 deg. above.
11/24 00Z (2317): Low mode: speed within 4 m/s. below 1.5km.
		  20 deg low 400-1500m
		  High mode: speed within 4 m/s above 1.5km, 8 m/s low
		  below;
		  Direction bad below 1.2km. Within 10 deg. above.

PROFILER DATA:

Low mode: typically to 2.5 to 4.2 km. 
High mode: typically to 3.2 to 5.8 km. 
RASS: profiles generally to 500-1000 m. Good coverage.

SOUNDING COMMENTS:

11/22 06Z (0457): good flt; Sonde/Sfc(high) TH disagreement.
11/22 12Z (1051): good flt; No winds below 850mb.
11/22 18Z (1720): good flt; Sounding VERY WET
11/22 20Z (1953): good flt; Sounding VERY WET
11/23 00Z (2300): good flt; Sonde/Sfc(high) TH disagreement. Near sfc winds bad.
11/23 02Z (0204): good flt; Sonde/Sfc(high) TH disagreement. Near sfc winds bad.
11/23 06Z (0502): good flt; sfc T high; Questionable winds lower levels.
11/23 12Z (1046): good flt;

GENERAL: Current status: Profiler/RASS WORKING; Radiosondes working; Sfc
			 thermo/gauge/rad working, sfc speed inop; sfc
			 direction probably ok.

SURFACE DATA:

All sensors look good except anemometer.
Wind speed:  No speed (broken); direction reportdly within 3 degrees
	of Cape Grimm station sensor.

SOUNDING - PROFILER WIND COMPARISON:

RASS good. Parallel to and slightly warmer than sonde.

(note direction of errors assume class is correct and refer to radar data)

11/24 00Z (2300): Speed within 2 m/s, Direction agreement very good.
		  Except except above 3300m.
11/24 02Z (0227): Speed within 2 m/s, Direction agreement very good 
		  except near the surface (20 deg.).
11/24 06Z (0500): Speed within 4 m/s, Direction agreement very good.
11/24 12Z (1059): Speed within 4 m/s, Direction agreement very good except
		  near 700m where the sonde direction is off but only order 15 deg.

PROFILER DATA:

Profiler data looks very clean. No evidence of ground clutter in either mode.
Profiler high mode and low mode winds agree very well.

Low mode: typically to 3.0 to 4.0 km. Good time-height consistency
High mode: typically to 3.5 to 5.5 km.
RASS: profiles generally to 600-800 m.

SOUNDING COMMENTS:

11/22 18Z (1704): good flight.
11/23 00Z (2307): good flight.
11/23 06Z (0500): good flight; inv above clouds at 1.8 km
		  sfc temp high? some sensor arm htg?
11/23 12Z (1059): good flight; some temp sensor wetting (cooling)
		  at 500mb? 630mb? 700mb?
11/23 18Z (1707): good flight; inv at 1.8 km. Some T sensor wetting there too?
11/24 00Z (2300): good flight.
11/24 02Z (0227): good flight.
11/24 06Z (0500): good flight. Noisy PTH data.
11/24 12Z (1100): good flight; inv 1.8 km. Questionable low level winds.
