Title: Southern Surveyor Underway Data Contact: Brian Griffiths Division of Fisheries CSIRO Marine Laboratories Castray Esplanade Hobart, Tasmania 7000 Australia 61-02-325-222 61-02-32-5000 E-Mail Address: Brian.Griffiths@ml.csiro.au Data Set Description: This file contains the explanation of the data in the Southern Surveyor underway data set taken during cruise SS 11/95, part of the ACE-1 experiment. Each column heading is explained, and any caveats for these preliminary data sets are noted. All data are presented as 30-minute averages, centered around the hour and half hour. The 30-minute averages are derived from 1-minute averaged data. Format: comma-delimited ASCII with fields: Column 1: Date (YYYY/MM/DD) (UTC) Column 2: Time (HH:MM:SS) (UTC) Column 3: Julian decimal day, with time in half-hour increments. (UTC) Column 4: Decimal Latitude: 4253.83 is 42 degrees 53.83 minutes Column 5: This is South Column 6: Decimal Longitude: 14721.01 is 147 degrees 53.01 minutes Column 7: E: All longitudes are East. Column 8: GPS_Speed: This is the doppler log record of ships speed and represents an accurate vessel speed through the water. Column 9: GPS_Heading: Ships heading from the gyro compass. Column 10: EK500_depth: depth of water under the ships keel. Zero values mean the echo sounder has lost bottom lock, and should be ignored. Column 11: DT_Air_Temp: Air temperature in degrees celsius Column 12: DT_Wind_Speed_Knots: wind speed in knots Column 13: True wind direction: Column 14: DT_Light: masthead photosynthetically active radiation (PAR). Column 15: Thermosalinograph salinity: NB THIS IS UNCORRECTED DATA Column 16: Thermosalinograph salinity: NB THIS HAS BEEN CORRECTED USING THE CTD SURFACE SALINITY DATA. IT IS THE DATA TO USE. Column 17: Thermosalinograph temperature Column 18: Fluoresence measured in the thermosalinograph outflow water. Column 19: Data from column 17 corrected to chlorophyll a using a regression of fluoresence to chla from discrete samples. File Name Conventions: uwcomp.dat References: None.
