This compact and reliable lidar detects backscatter from air molecules, aerosols, and hydrometeors (water and ice) and is used to measure and map distributions of relative aerosol concentrations. The instrument operates at two wavelengths 532 (green) and 1064 nm (infrared). On the C130 aircraft, it operates from zenith to nadir out to distances from 10 to 15 km with range resolutions down to 7.5 meters and along-track resolution to 4 meters. NCAR/ATD produced GIF imagery of the SABL digital data during each of the C-130 flights during ACE-1. Each GIF image contains approximately 20-min segments of data. Please contact Bruce Morely for more information or access to the digital SABL data. This dataset is also available on the Internet at the URL: http://www.atd.ucar.edu/rsf/ACE1/sabl/sabl_ace1_tc.html Format: Graphical Interchange Format (GIF) Imagery with Hypertext Markup Language (HTML) navigation documents. The images are screen snapshots and show inoperable control buttons from the data display software used to create the GIFs. File Name Conventions: This directory is divided into subdirectories by flight. The GIF imagery in these subdirectories are named MMDDHHmm.gif where MM is the month, DD is the day, HHmm is the time in UTC hours and minutes. An example for 22 December 1995 for 1734 UTC is 12221734.gif. This directory is best viewed opening the "toc.htm" file in a web browser. HTML documents in the directories include flight tracks for easy navigation. References: None.
